A bit more intensive than independent living and assisted living, long-term care refers to a continuum of medical and social services designed to support the needs of older adults living with chronic health problems. These problems may affect their ability to perform every day activities such as eating, bathing, dressing, or getting in and out of bed or a chair. The need for long-term care often stems from disability, chronic illness, or cognitive impairment.
